Wilmarie van der Merwe: How to land the perfect pitch, every time.

We spoke to our Senior Account Manager, Wilmarie van der Merwe, at Total Exposure, on what it takes to craft a good pitch for a potential new client:

“Research! Research! Research! You’ll never know the client or their business better than them – but you sure as heck should try to! Don’t try cut corners here – get in there and spend a lot of time deep diving on a granular level.

Research as much about them as possible. From their brand story and values, to what campaigns they’ve done in other markets as well as in SA (if any). Then, take it one step further and spend time researching their competitors - what they’ve done differently, what has worked and what hasn’t and why. Where are the gaps that your pitch’s ideas could fill.

Once your confidence in understanding your potential client is there and you could say it in your sleep if someone woke you up at 3am to find out, the creativity and ideas for your pitch comes naturally and will start flowing. I would say it’s the equivalent of getting the perfect gift for your best friend that you *know* they will love.

Key tip: as you’re researching, ideas might already start flowing so make sure to jot them down and bullet point your reasons why so you don’t forget."
