Sixteen comedians will enter the ring but only one will emerge as this year’s Roast Battle Champion when the highly-anticipated seven-part Roast Battle returns to Comedy Central (DStv channel 122) on Monday, July 9, at 21h30.

The fabulous four who will spar with scorching jokes, barbed insults and sizzling one-liners in the debut episode are Mojak Lehoko versus Eric Jansen while Thabiso Mhlongo goes head-to-head with Lazola Gola. Only two will emerge victorious and move on to the next round.

Roast Master this season is comedy giant John Vlismas who will be joined on the judging panel by two more comedy heavyweights Tumi Morake and Kagiso Lediga to find this year’s true-diss champion.

Doing battle in future episodes are Dalin Oliver against Robby Collins; Nina Hastie and Carl Weber; Casper de Vries versus Lihle Lindzy; Dave Levinsohn battling Tumi Stopnonsons; Jason Goliath and Khayisa Bunu and Chris Forrest with Yaaseen Barnes.

Says Dillon Khan, Vice President for Comedy Central & Creative Services for Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa: “We have some of the best practitioners of insult comedy sparring with each other this season as they attempt to inflict the ultimate burn! It’s going to be fast, furious …. and fun! It makes for engrossing and hilarious television.”

Roast Battle is a wildly successful international format first debuted at the Montreal Comedy Festival and now filmed as a Comedy Central television show internationally. The South African version was filmed in front of a live audience as part of the Goliath Comedy Experience at The Venue Melrose Arch
