Apple Music – which continues to uncover and develop new talent on the African continent – has chosen South African singer Roan Ash to feature as part of its global Country Music campaign Country Wide.

The initiative kicked off on Friday, July 27, and includes The Wild Feathers from the US, Catherine McGrath (Ireland), Tenille Townes (Canada) and Australia’s Missy Lancaster.

Ash – a Pretoria born singer and songwriter who was a contestant on the first season of The Voice, South Africa – released his album Whisky To My Soul to acclaim earlier this year. This follows his 2015 debut album The Traveler. He also won legions of fans when he appeared this year on the South African version of Dancing with the Stars where he performed a beautiful rendition of his song If I Ever Saw Heaven.

Known for his modern country-blues-folk style, Roan started playing guitar in 2001, and in 2006 he began doing live performances. Since then Roan has shared the stage with artists including Dan Patlansky, Matthew Mole Jan Blohm, Koos Kombuis, Arno Carstens, Vusi Mahlasela, Glaskas, Klopjag and Robin Auld.

In 2016, he co-wrote and recorded the theme song of the feature film Sy Klink Soos Lente with Bouwer Bosch and Dawie de Jager, which received widespread praise.

Says Roan Ash: “What an incredible honor it is, to be chosen as an artist for Apple Music’s Country Wide campaign. It’s not every day that a South African artist gets the opportunity to be featured on this amazing platform. I am forever grateful.”

With over 45 million songs, Apple Music offers a free 3 month trial with no commitment and is ad-free. Apple Music is available on iPhone and iPad and also for download from Google Play for Android devices.
