BET’s The Big Secret Confessors: Where are they now?
Following 13 weeks of revealing shocking secrets, BET’s The Big Secret will revisit the most talked about confessors in a two part reunion show on Wednesday, 24 January at 21:30 and 22:00 CAT on BET (DStv channel 129).
Hosted by the ever candid Khanyi Mbau, part one of the reunion show will see her having a heart-to-heart with Arnold who confessed that he was still struggling with the effects of what happened to him as a child; Edmund, who faked being gay and had a fall out with his friend Tshepo; Mmapaseka, who was instructed by her church elder to dump the married man she was dating; Nokwazi, who had to relive the trauma that occurred after one fateful decision and Sibusiso who finally came clean about his double life.
The second part of the show will delve deeper into the story behind Mataozen’s confession that he had a secret affair with his best friend’s girlfriend. Mataozen never anticipated the backlash he would receive after his story aired on The Big Secret. To make matters worse, it then came to light that Mataozen and best friend Dotso had colluded to fake the entire story. In this special, The Big Secret brings the two friends back to set the record straight once and for all.
Says Khanyi Mbau: “Through BET’s The Big Secret, I have first hand experienced all our participants’ journeys to free themselves from their emotional burdens while at the same time facing the challenges of revealing these secrets to their family, close friends and/or lovers. The process of healing is not an overnight one and I hope that through this series, we have been able to reach into hearts of many viewers who are experiencing a similar path.”
Says Monde Twala, Vice President for BET, Youth and Music for Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa: “We had a great local team behind this production from Khanyi’s talent as host for the series where she tackled important conversations, to Endemol who created a series that strongly resonates with our audiences to the inclusion of an on set therapist to provide supportive counsel. THE BIG SECRET served as an important edutainment series where we delved into critical pro social topics.”
The local creation and production of The Big Secret is indicative of Viacom International Media Networks socio-economic contribution of working with local talent and industry to create local and relevant content for South African audiences. The Big Secret raises relevant pro social topics in each episode and is a strong illustration of how our BET channel creates content for audiences on important matters.
