Beatenberg composer, Matthew Field, renews major international publishing deal with Sony/ATV
Matthew Field of Beatenberg this week renewed his publishing agreement with Sony/ATV Music Publishing on the eve of the band releasing their sophomore album, 12 Views of Beatenberg.
The deal builds on a relationship that began in 2014 when Field first signed with Sony/ATV Music Publishing. Field is the lead singer and main composer of the seven time SAMA award winning band Beatenberg, which rose to fame with their debut album, The Hanging Gardens of Beatenberg. They shot up the charts with songs like Pluto, Rafael and groundbreaking collaborations with Grammy award winning band Mumford & Sons and DJ Clock.
Field’s musicianship is undeniable. During the course of his studies, he received a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA. Having an interest in both jazz and classical music, he always returned to the form of the popular song. His lyrical and melodic gifts have left a unique imprint on our landscape whilst breaking boundaries.
Guy Henderson, President International, Sony ATV Music Publishing, “Every now and again a special songwriter comes along that changes the way you listen to and appreciate music. Matt is one of those songwriters. He has already written songs that will live on and be considered amongst the best songs to have ever come out of South Africa. We are thrilled to continue this journey with Matt as he takes his music to all four corners of the globe.”
Rowlin Naicker, Managing Director, Sony/ATV Music Publishing, “It is great to extend our relationship with a composer and musician of Matthew Field’s calibre. The renewal of our agreement gives us an opportunity to further expand his reach internationally and also carries the story of South Africa’s creative excellence to the world.”
Matthew Field, “I am honoured to continue as a writer at Sony/ATV and grateful for the support from Rowlin and the team. There is so much I want to achieve and I am looking forward to what we can do together in the coming years.
Sevi Spanoudi of Black Major, Beatenberg’s manager, “Sony ATV South Africa and Black Major have worked together on some of South Africa’s most gifted artists… Abdullah Ibrahim, Freshlyground, Bongeziwe Mabandla, Felix Laband and of course, Beatenberg. We’ve achieved so much in our time together; I look forward to the coming years of our partnership and developing Matthew Field’s work, who I believe to be one of the most talented writers of our time.”
The 12 Views of Beatenberg is the band’s introductory release on the back of their recording deal with Island Records UK and will be available on all digital platforms on Friday 14 December 2018.
